OverCoat Goes to Cleveland [Blockparty 2009]

Blockparty Website
Blockparty Compo Results

So I braved the awful flight to Cleveland [and Cleveland itself] for Blockparty, which is hosted by Notacon, met up with virt, necros, a handful of people from #mod_shrine, and we just nerded it up for a full weekend. Consumed gallons of cocaine, coded java on cell phones, listened to Gargaj regale stories of demoparties gone by, and had probably the worst “home cooked italian” food in all of Cleveland. All in all, except for the whole Cleveland part, fun times were had. I even got 6th in the allgear music compo! Hoohah!

MAGFest music director and musician Dom featured in LittleBigPlanet blog

From GM4A:

Amazing musician, MAGFest music director, and constant supporter of everything video game music (including this here site), Dominic Cerquetti, or the more friendly Dom as he is known around these parts, was recently featured in the Media Molecule blog. The blog for the creators of the PS3 game LittleBigPlanet.
He was featured in one of their blog posts thanks to Dom’s awesome
keyboard work on a track from LittleBigPlanet. You can watch the
impressive video below, and if you dig it be sure to check out Dom’s Live Videogame Music Show every other Tuesday, in where he takes live requests for any and all video game songs!

Help Wingless with his *other* game

The wingless posted on OCReMix:

Hello all!

I’m working on a little flash shmup (oh and sidenote: that ad you see on OCR this month is another one of my games. Feel free to click and buy) and I’m doing what a lot of the big-boys in the Industry do: collect lots of data and redesign accordingly.

So I have a working build and an online survey ready. For those of you
who are interested, I’d love it if you played around with the build for
a bit, then answer the very brief survey. It would help me immensely,
and plus, you get to be part of the Game’s Industry… tacitly!

About the artwork:
The
artwork is a remixed version of an art piece titled “The Unusual
Suspects.” The artwork was created last minute by Leo Camacho (who will
be next months artist as well), so huge thanks to him on putting
something great together on only a few days notice! Sadly we had our
original artist have to drop off the project due to family affairs, but
best of luck to her, and hope to have her on a future album!

Thanks:
Thanks
again to everyone who checks out this album! Thank you for taking an
interest in brand new and amazing music! Thank you to all the bands and
artists kind enough to contribute their hard work for the mixtape!
Thanks again to Hotdog Storm for hosting duties! Also thanks to any

Pilotwings ReMix in Game Informer Article

glasfen posted on the OCReMix forums:

Yesterday, Game Informer posted an article on the Pilotwings franchise,
trying to entice Nintendo to produce a Wii generation version. At the
very end, they mention the style of music which should be included in a
new rendition of the series, highlighting OCR’s very own (and only
Pilotwings mix) Midnight Altitude.
Congrats for the exposure, jcd!

GM4A posts Interview with Nicole Adam’s & injury

So I’m admittedly pretty late on this one, as I’ve been pretty swamped with company the past few weeks, BUT genoboost over at GameMusic4All has a really great interview with OCR’s newest female remixer, and long time community member, Nicole Adams and OCR’s very first remixer: injury.

About a year ago I had the pleasure of running across Nicole Adam’s
music via myspace and was immediately amazed by the music she had
there. I soon asked her if she would like to contribute a track to the
2nd GM4A anniversary compilation Welcome to World 2. She was kind enough to agree and submitted the song Permutation
for the album, and I was of course blown away by how well it was all
done. Another thing I was amazed by was that she worked with Starla AKA
injury of OCReMix fame who provided her amazing voice and handled lyric
duties on the song verses. Together they created a sweeping arrangement
of the Donkey Kong Country song Fear Factory which has been the
highlight of the album for many people.

Flash forward a few months and now the song Permutation is featured on OCReMix
and has been getting some great reviews. Due to the slightly momentous
event I decided to shoot some questions to Nicole Adams to discuss what
it is like to have her first song on OCR, and also Injury, who has
returned to OCR with this song after a lengthy hiatus. I also took this
opportunity to ask them about their music influences, upcoming projects
and more. Check out the interview below, then be sure to check out Nicole Adams music myspace and check out Injury over at her new website!

Doubles’ Dash 2 Compo Compo RESULTSSS

So, the Doubles’ Dash 2 compo was Sunday, and as expected it was even better than the first! Here are the results from Shael’s LJ (I’m reuploaded the files on ThaSauce ’cause Shael’s a talented musician but his filenaming/hosting skills aren’t quite up to par =P. Also: ID3 TAGS >:( ):

Holy shit! I just hosted the second teams-of-two three-hour pop song
writing party/contest, and the results were absolutely impressive. I
encourage you to check these three songs out.

DJ Projekt Zero as Team Super Sloppy Double Dare – Shael’s Going to Fuck Me Up the Ass With No Lube and It’s Going to Hurt

You
have to hand it to DJ Projekt Zero, whose partner petered out halfway
through the contest, leaving him with half the time and half the
manpower to finish his song. Zero drew titular inspiration from a
threat made following his partner’s forfeiture midway through the
contest, regarding what would happen were he to not finish his track.

Shael Riley and Jiggin Jon T as Team Taking a Year Off to Travel – Pros and Cons

Just
like I said I would be, after wearing the producer hat last time, I’m
in the lyricist/vocalist role on this collaboration with JJT, who
produced an excellent instrumental. When I produced Injury, I wrote a
melody for her to write words to, but Jon just gave me a chord
structure, leaving me to write the melody too; that was cool, because
it gave me some wiggle room with my lyrics. Drawing inspiration from a
conversation I had with [info]treacerbullet earlier in the day, I decided to write a song in-character, taking a tip from the Randy Newman school of songwriting.

Injury, Sgt Rama, and Suzumebachi as Team Bisquick – Percent Caret Open Parenthesis

These
motherfuckers. Not only did they cheat, by secretly adding Doug “Sgt.
Rama” Arely to their team, but they parodied Snow Love and Sludge, the
undisputed worst song off of my first solo album. Fuck you,
cocksuckers. You are not invited to my contests anymore.

Actually, they did a really good job. Starla’s T-pain’d vox are stunningly hooky.

genoboost’s unofficial valentines day mixtape

From GM4A:

So
I have hastily tossed together a quick mix of love songs for all the
nerds and your significant others to enjoy! And I hope you do. If you
decide to play this for them, definitely let me know how that went in
the comments! Also, since I don’t really have permission to be
releasing these tracks I will only be having this compilation available
until the end of February, so grab the songs while you can! Most of the
songs on this mix are free and in higher quality from each respective
artist, so definitely check out each artists website!

About the artwork:
The woman on the cover is named Haiku, Sasha gives this story about her
“Haiku’s
Story: Born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, Haiku is a High School senior,
gamer, anime fan, and artist. Her Father is a wealthy art collector and
once famous Artist himself before his stroke. Her Mother is a beautiful
Poet and had named Haiku after the beautiful Japanese form of poetry.
Haiku’s name held beauty, strength, and deep meaning. Haiku does have a
deeper meaning, little does she know, she’s the reincarnation of the
famous High Priestess that guards the gates to Heaven.”
