Ronin Collective returns! Huge New Release!

Taken from the front page:

“Ronin Collective is back! With a new website,
a new compilation and new resident artists! Check it out!

“After more than 2 years of inactivity,
Ronin Collective is back, and we wanted to do a special release for our
return. Gama, a 24 track, 2hour compilation featuring Ronin members, guests
and friends perfectly defining the eclecticism behind the Ronin style. You’ll
find everything ronin has been and more; returning members deliver yet again
with a periphery of tones and styles from Blisaed’s guitar-hop, to Wiseman’s
folk-psychadelia, to Benefit of the Boomerang’s flaming jungle and V0idnull’s
goa epic. Also, two new official members to Ronin: recent guest-releaser
Fah offers two incredible tracks, a 12 minute acid track and a gorgeous
cinematic forray into analog ambient as outro to our comp, and Troupe, with
a delicate indie-tronic track. Last, we also have a few great guests on
the compil, including Nagz with his enchanting demo-breaks, Le Monsieur
Baguette’s naive melodies and glitchy love, Kevin Chow’s orchestral masterpiece,
Beatslaughter’s two contributions to the world of breakbeat and everything
in between. Ranging from ambient, to hip-hop, through idm and to harsh noise,
this compilation is a manifesto to our ideologies of creativity and individuality.”

Mitsuda and others interviewed for VGM Concert

Eminence Online, hosts of a soon-to-occur video game music concert in Australia, sat down with Yasunori Mitsuda and fellow musicians and staff at his Procyon Studio to discuss how they came to play and other subjects in VGM. Mitsuda revealed a couple tidbits about the Chrono Cross arrange. The entire thing is here.

Shael Riley “Build Me Up Buttercup” Cover!

No joke, straight from the MySpace blog:

Foundations Cover?

I have recorded a Build Me Up Buttercup!

And hats off to Lobachevsky, who’s been in fine shape during my sabbatacle.
Beefy,
Trenthian and Router: I’ll be tracking down the instrumentals to
Balloon Flight andย  Session so I can record my parts now. Assistance
would be appreciated! Sorry it took so long to get up and running
again, Guys.

Build me up, What?

Live bootleg of Shael’s 10/21 show now availible!

Shael says @ his LiveJournal:

A fan was cool enough to Bootleg my 10/20 performance at The Western
Front in Boston, opening for Optimus Rhyme and MC Frontalot. He got
every track in the 11 song set except for the first. The background
instrumnetlas are a little low in the recording, which suits me fine,
as I’m already pretty familiar with them, and it is, after all, a
bootleg, so some muddiness in the recording is to be accepted, if not
expected. Check it out, though! There’s a cool version of Blood on the
Asphalt, from my Street Fighter 2 remix project of the same name.

  1. Music of My Groin
  2. World’s Worst Drum Programmer
  3. Rock the House
  4. Miss Information?
  5. Bit Pop
  6. Down With Bane
  7. Mint Potion
  8. Music Ruined Video Games
  9. Blood on the Asphalt
  10. Less Than Three
  11. Braggadocio (MC Frontalot Cover)

Shael also adds, “The New York show the following night was something of a disaster! Likely I will explain in a post upcoming.

Eagerly awaiting THAT explaination ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Planet Boelex Spins the Virtual Wheels of Steel

Source

h0l/simon writes: “So since I know some of the Wired Magazine folks,
and they were looking for good Creative Commons-licensed music to play
at the opening of their ‘virtual campus’ in the online world Second
Life, I recommended Planet Boelex, and he’s done a set that will be
streamed in-world during their opening event tomorrow, Oct. 20th

Not really sure what time that will be – we think maybe about 4pm PST
on Saturday

I had read the thread [I probably check the mono211 board the most out of anyone due to rabid fanboyism] the day it was posted, but it didn’t really sink in that it was a MMO thing until just now, when Planet Boelex posted this image:

I have no idea what Second Life is like, or if they’ve done this before, but hey, it’s news to me! This was a pre-recorded DJ set, but who can say for sure how long it will take before a band performs live via 3D CG avatars in a MMO setting?

MPAA: Corrupting Our Nation’s Youth Since 2006

According to a recent story on the AP wire, Boy Scouts in the Los Angeles area can now earn a merit badge by doing the MPAA’s bidding. The merit badge is given out to those who follow a curriculum designed by the movie industry itself. Dan Glickman, the chairman of the MPAA, had this to say: “Working with the Boy Scouts of Los Angeles, we have a real opportunity
to educate a new generation about how movies are made, why they are
valuable, and hopefully change attitudes about intellectual property
theft.” We’re with you there buddy, if by “educate” you mean “brainwash.” What’s next? RIAA Sunday School?

Monotonik Turns 10! Massive Tribute Mix!

Simon says [lol]:
“So, we made it – ’10 Years Of Monotonik – The Mix’ is testament to
that. It’s hard to believe that it was in early 1996 that we first
started up our net.label Mono – initially as a .MOD-only label, since
this was before the days of MP3s (and, indeed, of very wide use of the
Internet.) What a long way we’ve come since then.
“The first couple of years, for those who recall it, actually
had individual Commodore Amiga-based BBSes distributing our material as
‘official distros’, before FTP sites such as Aminet kicked in and made
spreading material much easier, then Scene.org started helping out and
a switch to PCs and MP3s was made (in around 1999!) From then on out,
there was a dalliance with sublabels, including the now defunct Mono211
and Monoraveik, before Monotonik was standardized on and we carried on
publishing the best Creative Commons-licensed, freely distributable
MP3s we could find right to where we are now, halfway through the ’00s.

“So many people deserve thanks for helping us keep on keeping
on – from Tommy (Support.nl admin) through stalwart Monotonik releasers
such as Vim! and Lackluster, and more recent supporters like Ossi
(Planet Boelex). I’d like to thank my family and my wife Holly for
giving me the inspiration to continue Mono, but most of all, it’s the
Monotonik artists – you’re the label, not me, and it would be nothing
without you.

“It’s hard to estimate exactly, but millions of music tracks
from hundreds of Monotonik artists have been downloaded in the last ten
years, and thus, we commissioned a special mix from Christopher
‘Whalefish’ Whaley to honor some of our favorite Mono artists and
moments. Here’s the full tracklisting (and there’s some danger of a
part 2 mix, since we had to leave so much good stuff out, btw):

1. bliss – life on the rooftop

2. secede – seafold

3. planet boelex – paprikas from deep

4. vim! – whirlwind snooker

5. braces tower – king of rock

6. ramone – back to the oldskool

7. super science – sometimes we’re happy

8. whiskas – as in cockroach

9. dreamfish – twisted riddim

10. fun tourist – ddd

11. beak – amoral mayor earwig

12. twilight – crystal rain

13. distance/lackluster – starcell u.k.

14. aleksi virta – outer edge intro

15. thug – obatem by night

16. jiva – sous l’eau au pied

17. luminfire – bananadittydub

18. esem – thinmute

19. sense – icy l tap

20. sleepy town manufacture – lain say you care

21. grandma – strawberry rhubarb oppai

22. transient – trashybin

23. idmonster – the force may be with you

“Spread the mix, and we love you all.”

– Simon Carless, Monotonik – October 2006
