Cosmic-Dreams

A little site I happened to wander across while doing my daily browsing of classic games is Cosmic-Dreams

If there’s some good ol’ music from classic DOS, Amiga or some other games you just can’t seem to find mp3/ogg’s of, this just might be what you’re looking for! And if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you can make a request!
Cosmic-Dreams posts music from MS-DOS games in mp3/ogg format. And in
the case of MIDI formats from the original game scores, they too are
rendered beautifully in mp3/ogg format. (if you have a dreadful MIDI
output like I do, these are well worth the download than just relying
on the original MIDI’s)

The posted tracks are in the forums. There’s even a section for
requesting tracks from certain games for those who don’t find what
they’re looking for. I recommend those who check the site out to
especially look into downloading the Darklands and The Immortal
soundtracks, very good stuff!

The site still seems to be in its infant phase, but hopefully it’ll grow, since there’s A LOT of classic DOS games I wouldn’t mind nabbing the audio from. So head on over, check out the songs, make some requests, and of course say “hi!” to Skatoony!

Some NSFs released by Shnabubula

Shnabubula released a small collection of chiptune tracks over @ VGMix X in both NSF and MP3 format.

Free commercial hip-hop album (non-OverCoat affiliated)

The hip-hop duo Atmosphere has released a full-length free CD for Christmas. Atmosphere has become arguably one of the most successful hip hop groups over the year, founding the Rhymesayers record label which has signed artists such as P.O.S., I Self Define, and MF Doom.
This isn’t some 3rd rate internet recording, either. This is the real deal quality hip hop. Over the years Atmosphere has become my single most listened to band, so it’s obvious that I thoroughly recommend it.

as a way to thank all of our supporters, ant and i have put together this party favor.

it’s called “strictly leakage.” thirteen songs to chase away the winter doldrums.
free and downloadable at this link : Right Click and Save as…

it’s great for first dates, crappy houseparties, or to play in the backround while you google yourself again.

is downloadable a word?
what’s a doldrum?

nonetheless, thank you for the love, and please have a happy safe holiday.

oh yeah, i almost forgot,
“sad clown bad winter 11” is available now, and a new album from
atmosphere, “when life gives you lemons, you paint that shit gold” will
be available on april 22 2008.

virt posts his set from Blip Festival 2007

CHz posted in the VGFrequency blog:

Manhattan art space The Tank and New York artist collective 8bitpeoples announce the Blip Festival 2007, a four-day music and multimedia event taking place in New York City November 29 – December 2, 2007. Focusing on the modern artistic exploration of primitive video game and home computer technology and featuring 40 musicians and visualists from around the world, the Blip Festival showcases artists adopting and repurposing familiar but forgotten hardware – such as the Commodore 64, the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Atari game console and home computer line, and the Nintendo Game Boy – exploring their untapped potential and unique aesthetic character.

Blip Festival 2007 has come and gone, but the legend shall live on. The event featured Nullsleep, Blasterhead, and other big names from the modern chiptune scene getting down and dirty in New York’s The Tank. On Friday, November 30, one of the performers was Jake “virt” Kaufman, riding the wave of his most recently released game work, Contra 4.

Today, virt posted the six songs he played during his set. The set included arrangements of past songs he wrote (including one from a game he scored, Shantae), an arrangement of Jamiroquai’s “Love Foolosophy,” and a few original pieces. Check the video below for a short snippet of his performance of “DnB Chip Mix 07″:

“DnB Chip Mix 07″ gets my vote for best track by being an epic nine and a half minutes of FM bliss, but also worth mentioning is “Loli Fishing Next 20,000 Leagues,” a chiptune arrangement of a Kwakfest piece. Really, though, you can’t go wrong with any piece.
