Just got the news from starla. This was posted on Ormgas:
Since the cat is out of the bag due to the poll I might as well give you the full story.
Yes, ormgas is shutting down in the beginning of July. Some of you will
be upset and many of you saw it coming miles away and won’t really
One of the reasons for this is that I’m moving to a new apartment and
will lose the 100/10MBit fiber connection for a poor 24/1 ADSL
connection. Another, fairly huge, reason is that time and interest have
been fading away for me and w-ber for a very long time. We have had
some very good ideas about what to do with the site, how to redesign it
and which features to implement, but we’re simply out of time.
I’ll try to write up a longer forum post summarizing the life of ormgas
and things that were discussed behind the scenes but never saw the
light of day.
Ormgas now has a total of five streams instead of the old three! The two new streams are from America and Finland, hosted by member Dracoirs and admin w-ber respectively. Awesome. The streams were also moved to a block on the very right side. Very streamlined now with a very nice aesthete.
That makes a total of three 80kbit
high quality ogg streams (125 slots from these three alone!)
and the original 56kbit (which is basically the same as the 80kbit) and
32kbit streams from admin ravon’s home, Sweden.
Check da shizz out! Ormgas.com! Streaming OCReMixes 24/7!
In the last couple of days, I’ve been revamping a new page for the OrmGas Remix Project!
For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a project exclusive to Ormgas members. They make the tracklist and the community has its own remixers to do stuff. We’re quite soft on that rule, so even prolific OC ReMixers get to join too.
The site’s main purpose is to let people upload and rate WIPs and whatnot autonomously. I’ll be shortly adding something for the tracklists too.
Do visit Ormgas admin and my host Tanaric‘s page. If you can, a spare dollar wouldn’t hurt to keep the darn expensive costs down.
To keep the people satisfied until Ormgas v2.0, Ormgas owner and admin ravon has implemented new and special icons for the main playlist.
The main playlist now has little ‘thumbs up’ signs for any songs on the Top 100 of Ormgas.
Earlier before, ravon also implemented a new icon (stars) instead of numbers for the voting process.
There is debate and whatnot, but the main consensus seems to be that they are helpful. There is much accord on the idea that newbies should have to wait and level up (as the rank process is named) before getting the thumbs up icons because it may influence the weight of voting towards it.
The logo is now clickable, and it leads to the main page, like many other sites (with the exception of here 🙂 ). Due to much complaining, the ‘Main’ link was restored anyways.
Another hidden feature has finally been linked. The ‘Search’ page was finally linked to in the menu, after many years of being sheltered away from users. It really helps to find what you need.
Check all of it out at oc.ormgas.com.
One of Ormgas’s members has started a project! This project will be massively different than the ones over at OCR. Take a look! (link at bottom)
This project works on the basis of Ormgas’s users. The users make the tracklist, decide what stays or goes (anything on the project) and work with the remixers to create what the users want.
It’s a brilliant play by your fellow MagiNinjA, no? And yes, I’m a co-director I guess.
The file server will be set up as soon as I can get a php coder to do some simple crap for me 🙂
ya know…just an index that lists our songs and the tracklist…
