SoundTempest.net Redesigned, Now With More Content

Music industry newsblog and artist help resource SoundTempest has been completely overhauled and redesigned by OCR forum member and pro web guy Cyan_Ide (aka Chad Behnke of Steam Powered Design). The new site features an improved RSS feed as well as Digg, StumbleUpon and Twitter integration with every post and guide, better organized post tags/categories, and a non-default WordPress graphical theme.

Besides functional improvement, SoundTempest’s Guides section has also been revamped. These guides, written by zircon (Andrew Aversa) cover a variety of music industry topics such as music licensing, distributing and selling a CD, online collaboration and purchasing a DAW computer. With the new iteration of SoundTempest, all guides have been converted to lean, downloadable PDF files that are readily printable and feature easier to read text and formatting.

Look for me, Dyne, in that channel!  I take requests throughout the evening, and usually play most if not all requests.

I hope to see you on Ustream tonight!

The ”official” Debit Card of the Hyrule Royal Famiily!

Black Mage posted on OCReMix:

I decided to try my hand at doing one of those customized debit cards
from my credit union. I uploaded one of my wallpapers and cropped it
and submitted it. I really didn’t hold any hope that they’d print it,
because they’re pretty strict about what you can and cannot have on
your card. Really, this should not have passed, but, for some
reason…it did.

Either the person approving card designs wasn’t paying attention and
didn’t realize what it was, or they knew what it was and agreed with
the awesomeness!

Help Wingless with his *other* game

The wingless posted on OCReMix:

Hello all!

I’m working on a little flash shmup (oh and sidenote: that ad you see on OCR this month is another one of my games. Feel free to click and buy) and I’m doing what a lot of the big-boys in the Industry do: collect lots of data and redesign accordingly.

So I have a working build and an online survey ready. For those of you
who are interested, I’d love it if you played around with the build for
a bit, then answer the very brief survey. It would help me immensely,
and plus, you get to be part of the Game’s Industry… tacitly!

Wintermute Releases ”Audivore”

Recently, Wintermute participated in a contest called the “RPM Challenge”.  I’ve quoted his post over at the OC Remix Forums for you to read:

Good afternoon, OCReMix!
I recently participated in the RPM Challenge (http://www.rpmchallenge.com/index.php).
For those not familiar with it, the basic premise is that you create an
album’s worth of original music within the month of Februrary. Starting
on February 1st and ending (rushed!) the night of the 28th, I created
an album entitled “Audivore,” which I have since decided to make freely
available for download.

http://www.danbruington.com/music/audivore.zip
Stats:
8 tracks
35 minutes, 42 seconds
Electronica

I had a lot of fun trying to work in such a short time frame. The
production got a little rushed at the end, which was one of the major
factors in deciding that it should be released for free.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.

RKO Q1 Remixes

From SLAY Radio:

A quarter has passed, spring is finally showing its face so it’s time to bring you the Q1-2009 RKO Torrent.

As usual get your latest remixes on RKO and go get the Q-1 2009 here and remember to keep seeding for a while after download.

Hope this nice new additions will smoothen the hopefully few rainy days ahead.

Enjoy

April is Support OCR Month 2009

BGC posted on OCReMix:

Last year, djpretzel mentioned in a write-up that “Sometimes,
because of our content policy, our LLC status, the amount of content on
the site, or any number of things, people mistakenly think that we’re
an actual business that has ample resources and makes money, etc. This
is not the case – money from all our ads, shirt sales, and donations
combined only barely breaks even these days due to the operational cost
of hosting the site.
In other words, we always need whatever help you can provide.”
The same holds true this year as well. Before I get right to it,
however, I’d like to cover a few points. OverClocked ReMix has
experienced some tremendous growth in the last year – I think it’s fair
to say that none of the “old-timers” ever anticipated how popular it
would become or the impact it would have on so many people on so many
levels. With Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, we managed
to make our way into a major video game franchise, we’ve gotten a lot
of positive attention online and through events like Video Games Live,
and we’re receiving an ever increasing number of submissions from both
aspiring and renowned musicians from all over the world. Why does any
of this matter? The larger the site grows, the more resources it takes
to keep moving forward.

Many of you will remember that this time last year, I unofficially declared April to be “Support OCR Month”.
It seemed appropriate, since the site was not only officially standing
on its own two legs, but was growing rapidly, with the cost of things
like bandwidth and hosting quickly outgrowing the limited funds
generated from T-shirts, stickers, hoodies, and ads. Whether you’ve
personally downloaded one or all of the remixes that are hosted here,
enjoyed any of the album projects, made it to a meet-up or convention
and had a blast, played a game online with friends you’ve made here,
learned a skill you didn’t have before, improved a skill or ability,
helped someone else in the same way, sit and spent minutes or hours and
hours on the forums, or any combination of these things etc, that’s all
made possible by djp’s continued work on the site and our ability to
make such resources available. This year’s A1 gag
was great, but it’s not entirely unrealistic—that is, the possibility
of losing the battle to site operating costs and watching the site
disappear. In fact, though we aren’t quite in dire straights, we walk closer to that ledge than many people think.

Hey! Listen! volume 3 mixtape from Game Music 4 All

From GMFA:

I am very happy to announce volume 3 in a monthly series of 5 song “mixtapes” from GM4A. The series is called Hey! Listen! and asks you to do just that! Check out the first mixtape page
for info about how this mixtape series works. We are bringing you an
extra heavy dose of VG rock on this album from the likes of Chile based
ThePlasmas as well as East Coast rockers Rare Candy! Not only that, but
we have a great laid back VG remix from all around nerd musician sli,
and some great nerdcore hip hop from hiphopmcdougal. We top it all off
with a beautiful closing song from NES Rock newcomers I Fight Dragons.
All this is wonderfully labeled with artwork by good friend Leo
Camacho. Well don’t just sit there, dig in!

About the artwork:
The
artwork is a remixed version of an art piece titled “The Unusual
Suspects.” The artwork was created last minute by Leo Camacho (who will
be next months artist as well), so huge thanks to him on putting
something great together on only a few days notice! Sadly we had our
original artist have to drop off the project due to family affairs, but
best of luck to her, and hope to have her on a future album!

Thanks:
Thanks
again to everyone who checks out this album! Thank you for taking an
interest in brand new and amazing music! Thank you to all the bands and
artists kind enough to contribute their hard work for the mixtape!
Thanks again to Hotdog Storm for hosting duties! Also thanks to any
other sites, artists, blogs, or just regular folks who spread the word
about these mixtapes!

Dwelling of Duels at VGMix – April – 8 Bit vs 16 Bit Month

Dwelling of Duels, hosted by VGMix is a community wide compo where the main instrument must be played live.  This attracts a variety of talent and often produces amazing results.  Every month, a theme is chosen which must be followed.  Participants have one month to complete their tracks, songs are voted for on the last day of every month.

This month is 8-bit systems vs. 16-bit systems. All entries must choose a side and play songs that were originally written for a game on a system from that side (NES, Sega Master System, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, etc.)
For simplicity’s sake, we will limit this to actual consoles and not allow handhelds (like the Game Boy) or PC models (like the MSX). Songs are due on Sunday, April 26th at 9:30 PM Eastern US time. irc.vgmix.com #dod listening party to be held Monday, April 27th at 9:30 PM Eastern.

March Results
Dr. Manhattan: Ys 3: Wanderers from Ys – The Freak Winged Boy
Scaredsim: Ys, Ys 4: Dawn of Ys, Ys 6: The Ark of Napishtim – Have a Nice Morning!
M-H: Ys 6: The Ark of Napishtim – Ernst

Fourth Place – ansgaros: Ys – A New Dawn

Congratulations to the winners, and everyone who participated.  We’ll be watching for next months entries!
