We really can’t say much about the new ‘chippage’ that beek has released, except that we expect nothing less from this chiptune veteran. While we’ve praised his recent work before, beek stylishly hones his own retro influences and alters the chip genre to be something everyone can enjoy without discrimination. Â Peep his peppy, fun new tune above. “Kip’s Isle” is available to download for free right here.
Last month at GDC, I met Surasshu, a game composer/sound designer and friend who I knew of for chip music. I’d been curious about blending piano with chip sounds for awhile, so we decided to collaborate, starting with “Mabe Village” from Link’s Awakening. The whole process of this collab was way too fun – I cracked up every time we talked, and couldn’t keep a straight face in most of my video outtakes, either. Even in this video, I still end up with a big goofy smile!
Check out the product of their chip x piano collab above and be sure to check Aivi’s YouTube channel for great VGM piano covers and more cool aivi & surasshu projects coming at you soon.
Here at ThaSauce, we’ve been fans of creating and destroying decadent pixellated block worlds since 2009. But we’re even bigger fans of the aural pleasures that Joshua Morse tends to induce on us lowly humans who are only capable of discerning what good VGM music is while tirelessly mining for ore and crafting cool new blocks that make our castles that much better. If you are confused about which Minecraft Servers to play on, you can check out here to choose your favorite server from the variety of Minecraft categories.
To celebrate Joshua Morse’s latest album Waveform 3, to be released on April 24th, we have included a lovely arrangement from the indie sandbox phenomenon Minecraft that has sweeped the world by storm one block at a time. Morse’s take on C418’s original”Subwoofer Lullaby” tends to inspire a more upbeat mood of relaxation and tranquility, yet maintains further dramatic interpretation at 1:33 of the serenity that C418 tends to stick with throughout. Overall, very much an enjoyable adaptation of one of Minecraft‘s more sought-after tracks.
Chip Music Chronicle has tickled our senses recently by recording and posting tons of live performances on YouTube for those who missed this year’s PAX EAST. Along with their fastidious documentation of chip music sets shot on location from all over the East Coast, Chip Music Chronicle seems dedicated to bring us great audio and video quality of the shows that we simply cannot attend. For that, we express gratitude towards founder and  curator Emily K. Feder for making these viewings possible!
This week’s Quick Look highlights Protomen’s “The Hounds” from Act II, featuring the established “guerilla-style” recording that CMC has specifically chosen to echo an exclusive, in-person performance. With this being said, The Protomen absolutely kill it with their staggering on-stage presence, allowing for a exhilarating view at each band member while the audience excitedly rages on. Peep and click the video above to be directed to an entire Protomen playlist, live from PAX EAST 2012. Oh, and be sure to check out and like Chip Music Chronicle’s Facebook page for more action-packed performances of your favorite chip music artists.

[The following is an April Fools’ Joke and is satirical in nature. None of it should be taken seriously EXCEPT the launch of VGMix Archive, which is an actual website that serves it’s advertised purpose.]
After an unfortunate turn of events we regret to announce that ThaSauce has ended our relationship with OverClocked ReMix indefinitely, active immediately. This is a really sad day for all of us, but after months of discussion and preparation, we have to call it off. Negotiations broke down soon after our announcement after we reached unresolved circumstances between ourselves and the OverClocked ReMix staff, particlarly Stevo “Level99” Bortz.
Things aren’t all bad, though. As we realized we were reaching an impasse we began exploring our other partnership options. With that said, we are now proud to announced new relationship between ThaSauce and Jake “vert” Kaufman and his VGMix team. Jake has been very understanding of the circumstances between us and OCReMix, and as a result we have decided to join forces to make the best online community that video game arrangements have ever seen!
As a celebration of our new, hopefully long-lasting, partnership we are proud to announce the launch of VGMix Archive. VGMix Archive is a large, searchable index of every VGMix 1, 2, and X song we could pull together. Preview and download your favorite tracks, or download the whole collection via BitTorrent! We hope to keep VGMix Archive a constantly updating archive, so anyone who has any tracks that we might be missing, feel free to let us know!
We apologize for all the preceding drama, but we are dedicated to moving forward and making the internet a better place one video game remix at a time, no matter how many beards try to stand in our way!
