MAGFest Site Revamp

Brendan’s recently revamped the MAGFest site with a new color scheme, logo, and layout, as well as a spiffy radio player. We can only assume that this, along with the text in top area, means an announcement of the official date and location can’t be too far off.

You can probably leave some comments about it here.

Down with Googlepages.

Hear this: If you submit a song to R:TS that is hosted on Googlepages you will IMMEDIATELY be blackballed for no less than 5 years with no exceptions. I don’t care if you’re Yasunori Mitsuda, I’m not going to try 15 times to get your song downloaded entirely.
Ok, so that’s a bit of an exagerration, but the 15 times is NOT. Seriously if you need hosting, ASK US. We have more than enough space and bandwidth, seriously. In the meantime JUST ATTACH THE SONG TO YOUR E-MAIL. IT’S COOL I PROMISE.

ID3v2 Update

If anyone has any trouble downloading any songs lately, it’s because
I’ve been reuploading all of them to fix a number of ID3v2 issues.
There were a few tags that were inconsistent with out conventions, but
most importantly since I have a Mac now I noticed that without the
“album artist” field filled in, the songs won’t group together under a
single album. So I made sure to update all of them and am in the
process of re-uploading.

Should be done sometime later this morning, followed by a new song post!

WTB: MAGFest Weekend

Hey guys, Brendan and comany are very close to signing a contract, but
they need YOUR help to decide which weekend to take. Get your asses
over to www.magfest.com right now and let them know what’s up.

Seriously. It would suck balls if you couldn’t go because you didn’t say so before hand.

Boris Yeltsin dies age 76

The esteemed former president of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, has passed on earlier today. He was an ally of the United States during his tenure, and though his health suffered after quintuple bypass surgery in 1996 he was instrumental in making sweeping changes to the former Soviet state… although his successor has recently been reigning in capitolism in favour of stalin-like politics.

So have a shot of vodka and remember one of the greatest. (no. wrong. i’m a poser.)

Video Games Live Meetup Announcement

This was just posted on OverClocked ReMix not too long ago today by big giant circles. A meetup for the Washington DC Video Games Live concert, on June 29th and 30th, is being put together as we speak. According to Liontamer, there are group ticket sales for 20 or more in a group. If you are able to attend this meetup, post in the thread over at OCR’s Community Forums by following this link.
Also, if you cannot get there via that link, or are having problems,
here’s the full URL of the link that you may copy and paste it:

NiGHTS to be on Wii?

I almost don’t want to write this story. The rumor that NiGHTS
is going to be reborn on the Wii has been going since before the Wii
was even called Wii. But there is now at least one nugget of
significant evidence that it may be happening. Go Nintendo
posted some scans of Official Nintendo Magazine that mention a “world
exclusive” scoop on the rebirth of a classic franchise. The picture in
the scan shows the stars, clearly outlining…something.

So Testicular Sound Express at NeoGAF (no relation) put together the scan with the cover art of NiGHTS to produce the following image. You decide for yourself.

MAGFest Promo tour coming to a town near you!

Brendan posted this recently on Facebook:

So, last year I had a revelation: “Let’s go on a roadtrip and promote MAGFest!” But, I was a bum (I guess I still am) and we couldn’t pull it off. But damnit, I can now! So, I did a handful of planning and mapping and phonecalls and talking and stuff.
At last, a car has departed today from my house containing myself, my housemate Ogre, and Wire, the guitarist from swedish videogame coverband Game Over (who as a bonus has never been to the states). Our mission is to bring MAGFest in the form of videogames, rocking out, partying, and, well, driving to a bunch of those folks that traveled from all over the country to come to our wonderful event.

Our map is here: http://tinyurl.com/2h5hp6

If you’re at or near any of our stops, we’d love to do whatever. We *probably* can’t add any stops but if you can get to where we’re at, that’s best. I have unlimited text, data, nights+weekends, and a ton of minutes, so just poke my cellphone (aim cellgreenzebra) anytime, it doesn’t roam.

What we’re asking all our stops for is some food and a spot on the floor to sleep, but 7500 miles isn’t exactly a short trip so if anyone flings us even a few bucks for gas or an oil change (use the MAGFest donation button if you want), you rock.

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone!

Nintendo’s Wii Invades Retirement Communities

Nintendo’s Wii is more than just a next-generation video games machine… it’s a hit with the greatest generation, too. After taking the Wii to a reluctant AARP convention, the Sedgebrook retirement home in Lincolnshire, Illinois has had a console set up in their lounge.
So far, the big hit among septagenarians is Wii Bowling; many of the new group of elderly gamers have bowled their entire lives, and now they’re granted a chance to compete again, in a way that allows for tournaments spanning the globe… without the ten pound balls. The real selling point for many, though, is the realism the Wiimote grants them, says Don Hahn, a 76 year old bowling veteran:
“This is pretty realistic. You can even put English on the ball.”

Eminence returns to Sydney and Melbourne

Playing since 2003 and appearing last December in ‘Passion’, Eminence has announced a new game music concert in the form of ‘A Night in Fantasia: Symphonic Games Edition‘. Not only featuring music from such game franchises as The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, Eminence founder Hiroaki Yura has mentioned that 80-90% of the pieces to be played are live world premieres. Such music may include themes from the recently released Zelda: Twilight Princess or fan favourite Katamari Damacy.
Big names composers
are set to return to the showings for a free meet and greet, such as
Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger) and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy
XII), as well as new attendees Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts), Junichi
Nakatsuru (Soul Calibur) and Masaru Shiina (Tales of Legendia).

A Night in Fantasia will be playing on the 20th and 21st at the Town Hall in Sydney and the 27th at the Hamer Hall in Melbourne.
