ThaSauce, News Portal for the VGM Arrangement Community previews ”New Sauce”

So, since the panel at MAGFest I’ve been working pretty hard on a new version of the site.
The plan was to get across as much information as fast as possible, but
to do so in a generally quick and organized manner. I’ve been pulling a
lot inspiration from a lot of other sites I frequent, I’ve been trying
to integrate a lot of new community tools like StickAM and twitter, and I’ve been putting a lot of time into making sure the page displays properly for all browsers.

As of right now we’ve moved into a “quasi” closed beta, and I hope to
have the whole site tested, and ready for launch by late March, early
Febuary (Suzu/Fusion willing).

So, since the panel at MAGFest I’ve been working pretty hard on a new version of the site.
The plan was to get across as much information as fast as possible, but

As of right now we’ve moved into a “quasi” closed beta, and I hope to

The video is kinda lengthy (about 14 mins), but in it I go through the
new site, show off some of the new layout, detail some of the new
features, and explain some of the stuff I’m working on. I apologize for
the quality, and I’ll try to get a higher quality version up sometime
later.

One more important note is, you’ll notice I’m not referring to the site
as “ThaSauce 3.0.” That’s because, in my eyes, this is not the 3rd
version of the site, this is the ONLY real version of the site.
Everything up until this point was merely testing, and planning, but
THIS site is truly what I’ve dreamed of since the beginning.

vio2sf: Nintendo DS Music Player

Never heard of a 2sf? Well neither had we until our friends at Zophar’s Domain brought it to our attention. 2sf is an emulated sound format for Nintendo’s popular handheld–think NSF or SPC for the DS. vio2sf is a Winamp/Foobar plugin that allows you to play these files back. You can grab it from Zophar here. Though Zophar doesn’t have any 2sf archives yet, a quick google search yielded us a number of sites, so it shouldn’t be hard to find your favorite DS music. Enjoy!

Doubles’ Dash 2 Compo Compo RESULTSSS

So, the Doubles’ Dash 2 compo was Sunday, and as expected it was even better than the first! Here are the results from Shael’s LJ (I’m reuploaded the files on ThaSauce ’cause Shael’s a talented musician but his filenaming/hosting skills aren’t quite up to par =P. Also: ID3 TAGS >:( ):

Holy shit! I just hosted the second teams-of-two three-hour pop song
writing party/contest, and the results were absolutely impressive. I
encourage you to check these three songs out.

DJ Projekt Zero as Team Super Sloppy Double Dare – Shael’s Going to Fuck Me Up the Ass With No Lube and It’s Going to Hurt

You
have to hand it to DJ Projekt Zero, whose partner petered out halfway
through the contest, leaving him with half the time and half the
manpower to finish his song. Zero drew titular inspiration from a
threat made following his partner’s forfeiture midway through the
contest, regarding what would happen were he to not finish his track.

Shael Riley and Jiggin Jon T as Team Taking a Year Off to Travel – Pros and Cons

Just
like I said I would be, after wearing the producer hat last time, I’m
in the lyricist/vocalist role on this collaboration with JJT, who
produced an excellent instrumental. When I produced Injury, I wrote a
melody for her to write words to, but Jon just gave me a chord
structure, leaving me to write the melody too; that was cool, because
it gave me some wiggle room with my lyrics. Drawing inspiration from a
conversation I had with [info]treacerbullet earlier in the day, I decided to write a song in-character, taking a tip from the Randy Newman school of songwriting.

Injury, Sgt Rama, and Suzumebachi as Team Bisquick – Percent Caret Open Parenthesis

These
motherfuckers. Not only did they cheat, by secretly adding Doug “Sgt.
Rama” Arely to their team, but they parodied Snow Love and Sludge, the
undisputed worst song off of my first solo album. Fuck you,
cocksuckers. You are not invited to my contests anymore.

Actually, they did a really good job. Starla’s T-pain’d vox are stunningly hooky.

Doubles’ Dash Compo Take 2; Sunday, Febuary 15th @ 6PM EST

Doubles' Dash Compo

So I woke up today to a truly poetic invitation from a Mr. Shael Riley. This invitation, to tomorrow Double Dash Compo, is better than any other Valentine’s Day gift I could have hoped to received. As some of you may know we had our FIRST Double Dash Compo only a few days ago, and if I do say so myself it was a Tremendous Achievement of sorts.

I’m particularly obsessed with Shael and starla’s song, myself 😮

(Also: Gratz to starla for getting her first OCReMix in over 7 years posted today.)

Dear Recipient,

I have attached to this email an invitation to
an event so formal that I could not simply invite you in plain text, so
formal that I could not simply invite you in HTML. No, dear and kind
sir or madam, you are hereby invited to an event of such magnitude,
such dignified and uppity importance, that I shall cease explaining it
immediately and direct your attention to the PDF enclosed.

You are invited to participate in the 2nd Doubles’ Dash short-form songwriter party; its rules are as follows: teams of two compete with one another to write and record a vocal pop song over the course of three hours, while in contact with other contestants via IRC chat. The obvious devision of labor entails one team member writing music and the other lyrics, but this is not mandatory. At the end of three hours, all songs are listened to simultaneously and in sequence by each contestant; then, each votes for his or her favorite and a winner is determined. This event will take place during the hours of six to nine pm, Eastern standard time, on the evening of Sunday, February the 15th, 2009. That’s the afternoon of February the 15th 2009 to Westerly types. Please arrive in the IRC channel #ThaSauce, on irc.enterthegame.com at a quarter to the hour to select your partner, and wear your fanciest pants.

Eagerly anticipating your arrival,
-S

#ThaSauce’s first ever Double Dash Compo = SUCCESS

So we had just finished our 22nd One Hour Compo when Shael popped in with a pretty fun idea: a Double Dash Compo. Essentially the idea involves teams of 2 people; One person actually composing the music, the other writing and performing the lyrics.

Last nights participants were:
Shael & starla as Team TACO PARTY
Suzu & SgtRama as Team DoTYoG
Nekofrog & superjoe as Team Dead Cat

Shael Riley at A&G Ohio on March 14th

From GM4A:

Amazing nerdcore artist, not to mention OCRemixer and head of the SF2HD soundtrack, Shael Riley has recently informed me that he will be performing live at A&G Ohio,
which stands for Animation and Gaming respectively. I have been
watching youtubes of his sets for a while now and they are definitely
not something to be missed.
Maybe one day he will make it out to the
west coast, or he’ll have a set at Nerdapalooza
at the least (hear that Hex?). Anyway, check out the convention which
runs March 13-15, as it should be ace. And of course don’t miss out on
Shael Riley’s set on Saturday March 14th unless you are a grade A
sucker. For proof check out the footage below of the appropriate for
Valentine’s Day song Bits and Pieces from his album Toybox!

News Comments Now in the Forums

We’ve actually had this feature working SOMEWHAT for quite awhile now (albeit a few automation issues). I’ve finally decided to activate it for a number of reasons.

  1. Our forums are sexier than ever now.
  2. Spam on the site is a constant problem and exists almost exclusively in the forums.
  3. There’s a lot of changes coming up, and this is pretty much going to be the basis of all comments. So I might as well get this over with now.

genoboost’s unofficial valentines day mixtape

From GM4A:

So
I have hastily tossed together a quick mix of love songs for all the
nerds and your significant others to enjoy! And I hope you do. If you
decide to play this for them, definitely let me know how that went in
the comments! Also, since I don’t really have permission to be
releasing these tracks I will only be having this compilation available
until the end of February, so grab the songs while you can! Most of the
songs on this mix are free and in higher quality from each respective
artist, so definitely check out each artists website!

Mega Ran 9 = FREE

From Capcom-Unity.com:

Unity favorite Random
has finished up his new album and made it available for the low, low
cost of FREE.  The album isn’t just entirely inspired by Mega Man–it’s
entirely inspired by Mega Man *9*Splash Woman is my favorite so far, but download the whole thing here!

I had the pleasure of meeting Random when I met up with myf at Nerdapalooza here in Orlando last year. Really great guy. Really talented, too. I thoroughly recommend this to any Mega Man / Hip-hop fan.
